The Fraser Car Club is made up of like-minded individuals with a keen interest in driving the Lotus 7 Replica mostly built by Fraser Cars in Auckland. Club members can be found in most parts of NZ. We regularly take part in drives, ideally on quieter country roads, sometimes over a weekend or longer, we also attend track days and have members who compete in motor racing events.
We produce a regular monthly newsletter with editorial from representatives based from Westport to Kerikeri. We also have a facebook page and our own website. www.frasercarclub.co.nz
The first Fraser was built by Neil Fraser in Auckland in 1988 approximately 350 have been built since with many being exported to Japan and Australia.
Scott and Ida Tristram have owned and run the factory since 2006, they employ a small team of enthusiastic specialists producing the world class sports cars we love to own and drive.
The original Lotus 7 was designed by Colin Chapman in 1957, as a lightweight high performance track car capable of driving (legally) on the road. Fraser Cars has maintained Chapman’s basic design and performance philosophy but with the addition of up to date engineering and electronics they now produce modern reliable and exciting cars.
As with the original Lotus 7, most Frasers are purchased in kitset form to be assembled by their owners, the Fraser factory team provide on going support during the build process.
At first glance all Frasers may look identical. Every Fraser is unique. We all desire different things in a motor vehicle, colour, performance, upholstery etc. To build a Fraser you get to implant your personality into your very own performance dream car.
There is also an active pre-loved market for Frasers. Many of our Fraser Car Club members have purchased second hand cars. This is a quicker (some say easier) way to get your self out on to those twisty country roads where these amazing little cars come alive.
If you are looking for a luxurious ride with all the mods cons, a Fraser is not for you. If you want a practical car that you can take out your family, a Fraser is not for you. If you want a vehicle to take you shopping, a Fraser is not for you.
When you drive a Fraser you will feel the true spirit of driving, how it used to be. No power steering, no traction control, no air conditioning, no radio. This is a driver’s car. The cornering, acceleration, noise, it’s an immersive driving experience and never fails to put a smile on your face.
